Get the pink RV antifreeze (Menards $2.69/gallon) and pour in into each trap because the water held in each trap will freeze and split the trap.
Kitchen sink
Bath sink
Bathtub drain
Laundry drain
Toilet: Hold down the flush handle and let as much water flow out of the tank. Pour pink in the tank then a BUNCH in the bowl to get into the toilet's trap.
Open each faucet (don't forget the tub and the shower riser!) and let them drain. Leave them open.
I used 2 gallons, total $5.38 to protect my fixtures.
I left the water in the water heater because it is protected in the cellar and 40 gallons will take a long time to freeze. If I suspect a delay we will drain the WH. (but then the gas man will not light the pilot and might not unlock the meter!)
What else?
BRAD

Ah, all valid reasons for living in the deep south. We don't have to deal with freezing pipes much at all.
You guys can rib me this summer when we are melting in 100 degrees. --141.129.x.xx |

Use the plunger to shift most of the toilet bowl water out, then pour that red juice, cant plunge the dishwasher so use the red juice and spin the dial to agitate the red juice and send a little into the drain line, open the door to cancel the cycle.
The southern folks will be chasing bugs away from the mistletoe and beyond superbowl sunday. --76.188.xxx.xxx |

I keep the gas on. I keep the thermostat around 40 unless it's going to really drop to subfreezing temps. --72.95.xx.xxx |

You can also use air presser to blow out water in your lines also if you intend to keep the heat off a time in the winter along with what Brad mention. --99.117.xxx.xx |
