State Specific Question About: MISSOURI (MO)
A background check turned up an applicant for a townhome in a fourplex who is a registered sex offender. Does anyone know the law in Missouri and Federal Law to tell us if we can turn down the application for this. (offense was listed in 1997). Do the rules about living X feet away from a playground etc. still apply? Laws change so rapidly, it's hard to keep up. Thank you so much. --70.94.xxx.xxx |

Doesn't your written criteria say "no felons" and "no sex offenders"?

Our criteria is that they have to successfully pass a criminal background check. It's doesn't say, no felons, no sex offenders. Does it need to be there printed on the application?

I think having a sex-offendor status makes him automatic felony, you should put in your address and see how that works out - she/he may have already done that or they wouldnt pay for a background/credit check fee. Use the current address and see how close on trulia --76.188.xxx.xxx |

you do not have to rent to a criminal or sex offender. i wouldn't go into details other than you do a criminal background check. I don't invite crime. I would also be devastated if someone were molested because of my decision. I bought a property with 2 sex offenders. The one came to me right away to tell me what happened.... he was 23, she had fake ID... maybe true, maybe lie, but i felt better that he felt compelled to let me know right away. The other one, i have heard stories that were really bad about his situation... i didn't evict him, but i will not let any other criminals here.... unless it was something stupid and when they were less than 24 and it was 10+ years ago. --72.24.xx.xxx |
