State Specific Question About: CALIFORNIA (CA)

My tenant has lived in the rental home for 1/1/2 year and have not had any problems until now. I live across town 2 miles away. Two of my neighbors (seniors) called me to inform me that my tenants are using pocket bikes (small size motorcycle) driving them from inside the driveway of rental property to street level (home is located at end of closed street). What startled my neighbor was the two male tenants (father and uncle were driving each pocket bike with a baby on the handles of one bike and a toddler (2 yr old) on the other bike - I have not seen this yet!!! I have been parking down the street (my cousin lent me her car) and have not seen this activity yet. I asked my neighbors if they could take pictures before I conform them about this situation. No pics yet!!! --104.33.xxx.xxx

This is not your problem. Why do you care? It's not your concern if they take a kid on the handlebars. Tell the nosey, annoying neighbors to call the police an file a report.

Siting down the street as a landlord is creepy and a waste of time. The only time I would ever sit down the street would be if I was informed of comings and goings related to drug activity.

What your worried about isn't your problem. --97.35.x.xxx

COMPLETELY agree w/NE ... mind your own business ... really, hiding down the street in an "undercover car" ... parenting, or lack thereof, in others lives is not your concern. --72.70.xxx.xxx

Although "bothersome" for people that can "see" that there is potential danger in what they are doing - it's not your problem at all.

Thank the neighbor for letting you know and hang up. Go grab a beer or whatever (or finish what you were doing) because this is not your problem at all as the others have said.

I would definitely not be wasting my time "spying" on these people for something that has nothing to do with you at all. Do you know how many stupid things people do all day, every day?

Unless, of course you are just looking for entertainment. --67.246.xx.xx

Yep, the only time I've ever done stake outs is to serve papers or confirm drugs.

Tell neighbors to call cops. We had an annoying teenager with a go cart from the next block who would race around the neighborhood - at like 50! Cops could never catch him.

One day as usual, he ignored the stop sign at the end of the block and didn't see the truck.

The neighborhood is quiet again... :)

Listen to what the others have said. I totally agree with them.

You sure have a lot more time on your hands than I do if you can park down the street to watch something like this. --174.32.xxx.xxx

Reminds me of when I was in Costa Rica. Some guy was riding a bike down a super steep hill/highway. One kid on the handle bars, one on the bars between handlebars and seat and one kid on the rear wheel. No helmets either.

Personally I think what they guys are doing is wreck less and I would not allow my husband to endanger my child like that. But as others have said...non of your business. --72.218.xx.xx

This sounds like child endangerment to me. The persons who directly witnessed the baby and toddler riding on the handlebars should report it to your state's version of Child Protection Services. You cannot report because you did not directly witness anything. It also sounds like the senior neighbors are being bothered by the noisy motorcycles. --98.145.xx.xxx

Betty, awesome that your neighbors think enough of their neighborhood and you to call. While this is alarming " news" you'll have to let it go. Don't forget about it, write a note tp self and put in their folder for later reminded. The best thing to tell the neighbors is to thank them for calling (think of it as a news report ) and if they feel unsafe or that children are in damager they should call police, you are really powerless to enforce any laws, we have these services available and while u like being in the loop of whats going on around your rental house its really between neighbors. Relax. Take a step back and separate yourself. You have great neighbors, let them continue to be great. --66.87.xx.xx

Thank you all for your input and I really appreciate if great advice. I will talk with my neighbors - they are seniors and grandparents and as one of them said to me- as a parent we all do dumb things at one time or another. Just pray that the children don't get hurt. I will mention that they can call police or even child services - as I did not witness this activity. Thank you for all your advice and take care. --104.33.xxx.xxx
