State Specific Question About: INDIANA (IN)

Resident first stated niece had breathing problems, now the resident is having breathing problems. Said the past 2 years! She is now just complaining. FYI-she is a smoker & has a cat. We had the apt. checked for mildew, that was not good enough. She is requesting an air quality test and ducts cleaned and sanitized. We are installing a new furnace and having the ducts cleaned next week. She was on the schedule to get a new furnace anyway and the duct cleaning can't hurt. We know where this is heading. Feedback? --98.222.xx.xxx

Aim this tenant to someone else, get a responsible person there. NEVER use the 4 letter word, mildew is a housekeeping problem and unless they are willing to pay extra for maid services you are letting them walk the grey line, stay in control and advise them you are willing to let them go somewhere they willbe happy. --75.94.xxx.xxx

I agree, we use "mildew" also- I told her if she is still not comfortable with a new furnace and ducts cleaned we will let he out of her lease term- believe me, we have been through this before... 4 years ago- what a mess... woman sued us- she also was a heavy smoker- I wonder when smokers will realize they have breathing problems due to smoking and not running the A/C and furnace! We have found that "Mold Control" spray from Lowes works well. Thanks for feedback! :) --98.222.xx.xxx

What an idiot,I don't see how someone can say with a straight face that the ducts need to be cleaned because they are having a hard time breathing while they are holding a cigarette.I would tell them no way am I paying to clean ducts, tell them to quit smoking and let you know how they feel in a month --24.92.xx.xx

Yep, smokers have to blame someone. Why not the landlord.

I have read in the past that cleaning furnace ducts cause more problems and shouldn't be cleaned. Does anyone have information on that?

Furnace filters should be replaced on a regular basis. --72.200.xxx.xx

The duct cleaning company said to change furnace filters monthly! Every 90 days should work well. I will report back after we do the duct clean and install the new furnace- it's original from 1973! Thanks for the feedback. --98.222.xx.xxx

I would think twice about the duct cleaning.

There is no way to clean it 100%.

They will clean the duct and get lets say 50%. But they will loosen up the other 50% so it could be blowing out the vents for months. --76.104.xxx.xxx
