State Specific Question About: TEXAS (TX)

Is there a way to find the actual sales price of a Texas home? I am looking at the Hidalgo County online services, and they provide the deed of trust, but that only shows the loan amount taken out. I have looked at multiple web sites that list homes - you know the names - and they will show that a house has been sold, but very rarely list the selling price.

Does anyone here have a way that they find out the sales price?

Thanks

Tax records often show this, have you tried trulia or others online doing the same thing. --75.94.xxx.xxx

I looked at trulia, zillow and realtor. They all show that the homes were sold, and listed the dates, but said the price was Not Available for almost all of the homes. Very frustrating.

If there are any tax stamps or other indicators of sale price associated with the deed of trust or a warranty deed (the only two sales-related documents found online), I didn't see them.

It must be a state-by-state thing, as Colorado and Virgina, the two states I am familiar with, make sales prices very easy to find. --71.218.xxx.xxx

It's my understanding that it's very difficult, especially if there's no bank involvement. I know my County Appraisal District is always sending me forms that say, "Heyyyy! I see you bought a new house! Mind telling us more about what you paid for it...?" etc.

If the government has to ask me how much I paid for something, I doubt there are formal channels for random people to find that information. :) --64.72.xx.xxx

If it was listed with an RE Agent you can get the info from someone with MLS access. Private parties with no RE Agents, you might call the buyer or seller. Some areas redfin has sale prices but they are not in all areas. --208.54.xx.xxx

If it's in the DFW area, MLS can go back 3 years. You need to have an agent either look at MLS or REALIST tax search which can go back even further. Both are Realtor only access.

Why need sales price? If it's in a hot area of Texas, a price paid 1 year ago or longer has little relevance to today's price. Prices are at an all time high in my area of DFW due to Toyota and other plants coming.

You'll need an agent to find out what you want to pay. If in a hot area, don't expect to pay list. You'll pay $5000 to $10,000 higher for a $150k-$200k home. Also, expect to compete with 10 other similar offers. --99.125.xxx.xxx
