Cheapest way is to have him set it up through his bank. I believe there is a company advertising on this site that they will do it for a fee.

Open up a bank account and give your tenant just the account # and they can go to the bank and deposit their rent. I know Bank Of America and U.S. Bank will allow this. Find a bank in your tenant state that you might have in your state. --75.132.xxx.x |

If you want to be proactive, call his bank yourself and ask them how an account holder can set up automatic bill pay. Then tell your tenant if that's how you want him to do it. --99.92.xx.xx |

Bob,
Setting up an acct at a bank available to both of you is the easiest.
Many banks will set him up with an automatic ACH, a draw from his account delivered to your account.
we get a few thru PayPal each month but the res pays about 3% in fees.
Get away from MAILED payments. Too many troubles and excuses.

Bob, there is a sponsor of this site that provides this service. There is a small fee. However, there are additional benefits of using the service.
1) Tenants can build a credit history by using the service offered. Their rent payment data is reported each month to Experian. Many residents like this feature plus it gives your residents another incentive to pay on time (something that landlords like).
2) Landlords can also track income and expenses through the program which makes the 1040 Schedule E a breeze!
Those are just a couple of the added benefits. For more info and to get a free 3 month trial periord, go to www.directrentdeposits.com

I'm looking for a rent payment service but the service (direct rent deposits) advertised here looks very expensive - $14.95 for EACH rent payment? Also there are only four days each month when 'debits' can be made? Also it looks like the tenants have to go through a lengthy application and verification process.
My tenants live in different towns and they don't use my bank so directly depositing the rent into my account is not possible for them.
I am going back to mailing paper checks. In 2015 there should be a better and free way to pay rent.

I do my personal banking almost entirely on line. I use Chase, but other banks also do this. I can set up an auto draft that pays a preset amount to any payee each month. It is almost instantaneous for large companies. Smaller companies require entering more information at the initial set up, but once done, it is automatic. It takes 5 days for the echeck to clear. It is free. I believe the check is mailed to the company rather than direct deposited, as I am able to do this without knowing their bank account. --204.227.xxx.xxx |

All banks provide this service. It is usually called 'Bill Pay'. It sends a paper rent check to the landlord who still must deposit it in his bank. It just saves the tenant from writing and mailing a paper check. Doesn't save the landlord anything. --73.175.xx.xxx |

More than 1/2 of my tenants pay by transferring from their bank or account to mine.
The rest go into the bank and deposit into my account. --173.22.xx.xx |

WMH: How do your tenants transfer to your bank account? Wire? ACH? Bill Pay? How much does this cost them?
Deposit into my account - do you provide them with deposit slips? --73.175.xx.xxx |
