State Specific Question About: INDIANA (IN)

Has anyone on the forum got their rental ads hacked from Trulia. Look for the name Joseph and his New York phone no. 914-594-0581 where he can receive only text messages. I already contacted the web administrator and what is hilarious he even responded to the text sent to him inquiring about my property. Next step in the morning I'll contact the police and see where this is going to end. Any suggestions are welcome and if anybody else encounter this crook name and phone no. let me know. --67.236.xx.xx

John, I think you got pretty much everything.

We had our account hacked 5 years ago when our own residence just went for sale. Part of selling agent advertisement was Craigslist. Suddenly that "for sale" ad changed to "for rent" and phone number was different. We got the number / screenshot , did exactly what you are doing - called listing agent, Craigslist admin and the police. Policeman came over to interview us, craigslist took care of it on their end...

House was sold in few months, faked ad never came back, police didn't notify us about anything..actually they said from the get-go that they are not likely to get anything resolved.

There is plenty of crooks out there, many are doing it from other countries , police is claiming to keep a database..

Just monitor what you'v posted so your potentials don't go to the crooks. --75.190.xxx.xx

That happened to me in December - different scammer name, same scam.

Here's what to do: Go to the frauduent Trulia listing. Under the listing photo, hover your cursor on the word "more". In the dropdown, chose "flag". Next, email fraud@trulia.com, giving specifics that you are the owner, and this is fraudulent. They took it down within 10 hours, but in the meanwhile, I put an alert on my real ads to look out for "Keisha Jones", the name the scammer gave.

Nextt, get at least your main photo watermarked with a phone number and email address, fairly prominently. I use picmonkey - choose "Edit", upload your photo, then select Tt on the far left to create a textbox. Pretty easy, even for non-photo-editing savvy me.

Last, post a notice at the rental property to warn people of the scam, and to direct them to the real listing.

Sorry you had to deal with this. --71.175.xxx.xxx
