State Specific Question About: SOUTH CAROLINA (SC)
My tenants informed me that the next door neighbors had guest and one of the guests damaged/destroyed my mailbox and the mailbox of the neighbor across the street (two boxes on one stand) my tenants took pictures of the damage and the car with a missing piece left in my driveway parked in the next door neighbor yard however did not take picture of the license plate. My question is who is responsible for this my neighbor or the the person who hit it? and how do we go about handling it. We are going around and talk with the next door neighbor today.
Thanks to all who answers,

The reasonable thing to do would be for each of you to take care of your fair share of the loss unless the injuring party can be identified. --70.92.xxx.xxx |

The person that did the damage is responsible. Talk to the neighbor to see what they or their guest are planning to do to make the needed repairs. The driver may intend to make the repairs or pay the neighbor to get it fixed, but you haven't been told yet. --50.129.xx.xxx |

unless it is major expense, get out there today and fix it with some cheap lumber and new mailboxes that only cost a few bucks. You can provide receipts, etc after the fact. Unless this is very expensive, it is not worth making a huge stink over. Stuff happens, and there are stupid people everywhere. Sometimes it is not worth your time to try to educate them.
