State Specific Question About: MAINE (ME)

In your opinion, what is the best vestibule lockset (automatic locking when door closes) that you have found on the market?

Please be specific as to the manufacture name, and model if you know it.

Thank you. --71.254.xx.xxx

I haven't specifically used their vestibule locks, but I've always been happy with the LandlordLocks.com stuff. They offer vestibule style ones in the same easy-cylinder-swap style. If I was needing them, that is what I would get -- since it would fit with the rest of my master key system.

I have several vestibule locks from landlordlocks.com and they work great. However, I would only use them on maybe a storage room or similar place. I used to use them on some of my common doors in multi's and people would accidentally lock themselves out all the time and then break the door to get back in. --64.197.xx.xx

There is a company named Best that sells the button vestibule lock. It is not battery operated and the tenant punches the buttons in a certain order. They are automatically locking behind you. They look a little commercial but are otherwise nice. --76.30.xxx.xxx

Dan -

What do you use if you don't use the vestibules? I thought MA required entrance doors to buldings to be self locking?

GLR, I'm not aware of any MA law about self locking, although there could be local regulations I suppose.

Regardless, it isn't worth the hassle and expense of tenants always locking themselves out. If they want a locking common door on a building, I will install a locking knob with a thumb wheel on the inside. --64.197.xx.xx

I recommend schlage , light duty commercial storeroom lock Orbit satin chrome.

You can buy at Home Depot or hdsupplysolutions.com

Google: Home Depot 665506. $36

Hdsupplysolutions.com has some other more expensive options that are heavier duty, if you want to step it up.
