State Specific Question About: VIRGINIA (VA)

If I pay the monthly principal, interest, and insurance but do NOT pay the taxes, will this affect my credit?

I realize that eventually the house would go to foreclosure. But I am only talking about 4 or 5 months worth.

I guess the city would put a tax lien on the property. I just don't know if creit bureaus scavenge tax records as a part of their credit profile maintenance. --138.162.x.xx

Are you wanting to let the property go? Or are you going to pay the taxes later? My county will let you pay half by dec 1, and the other half by June 1 --107.77.xx.xx

Check with your tax office. Financially, it might be less expensive to borrow to pay the taxes (short term loan or credit card) than to pay the additional fees for late payment that your taxing authority will charge.

Also, sound like you have a mortgage. Eventually the mortgagor may step in and pay the taxes to protect their interest.

Thank u for the replies. I have the $ to pay the taxes. The reason I am considering 'not' paying them is because my partner is supposed to be paying the mortgage as ruled by a court proceeding. But since that is not happening, I have been paying it to maintain my stellar credit.

So i thought if I didn't pay the property taxes, then I when the house was sold, the taxes would be paid out of settlement and at least my partner would be "paying half" from settlement. I just dont know if not paying taxes affects credit. I won't let it go to foreclosure. House should be sold within 6 months. --70.160.xxx.xx

If taxes and insurance are part of your payment you can't NOT pay those.

What could happen, what should happen, we what may happen..,sigh.

Credit sounds like your least worry.

Best to you. Sorry u have to go through troubles. --66.87.xx.xxx
