I need to file a small claim in Perry Twp (Marion Co) against a former tenant for unpaid rent. I called the township's small claims court and was advised that a constable will personally deliver the notice. Problem is the tenant declined to give me a new address. All I know is that he moved to Mooresville. His mail is being forwarded to the new address but the court will not allow me to file a claim by only having the claim forwarded to him via USPS. Google searches are not giving me the new address. I have his SSN and driver's license # from his initial application. Is the only option for me to get a new address to use a paid website to access it? Like Tenacheck.com? Or is there any public office I could call that would be obligated to give me his new address? I have a call into his employer to verify that he still works there as I will perhaps have the constable deliver it there instead but if he is not working at the time, I am afraid I will be out of luck. Any ideas?

If they still have a job, I have them served at work. The suckers are slippery once they owe you money and slink off. Check his/her Facebook account they may tell you and the rest of the world where they relocated or work. Young tenants frequently return to mommy letting a parents house be served. --198.162.xxx.xxx

Thanks! I think I am going to have them sent to work. He didn't want to pay & didn't want to give me a new address? Well, he can be embarrassed in front of his boss & coworkers! --107.199.xx.xxx

Yes I prefer serving them at work in front of co-workers. --198.162.xxx.xxx

I use return service requested in 12pt type just like you see on your own bills, if it being forwarded you will get a notice to visit the post office and get the new address for 60cents. --75.94.xxx.xxx

Carey, I'm 45 minutes south of you.

A thought:

-Marion County has it's own rules on top of Indiana small claims rules. State law says certified mail is sufficient but he must RECEIVE it.

-will the Perry Twp constable drive to Mooresville in a different county?

-do they order you NOT to deliver?

Me? we get 4 Emergency Contacts per adult with signed permission to deliver notices to these trusted persons. I can certified mail/deliver to ALL possible places, not just one:

-his former address. Tracking will show his new address IF one is on file

-his Momma

-his Granny

-his employer

Go back and review his app for clues.

FB is GREAT!

My app grants permission to pull credit at any time, so if he has applied for credit, perhaps his new address will show if his new LL pulled credit.

Tip: another reason to file sooner than later, as soon as they fall behind, and before they move out. --67.175.xx.xxx

I second the "return service requested" typed in over the address line. Worked for me. It's technically for business mail so type all of the writing on the envelope, use a business looking envelope. Mine came right back to my house with their forwarded address stuck right on the envelope. No cost. The post office was NO help with this, told me only businesses could do it but my lawyer advised otherwise. You could try serving at work but process servers only do this at smaller cos. Factories, hospitals, etc do not allow service. If all else fails process servers usually offer a skip trace around $75?!? I think. --108.66.x.xx
