State Specific Question About: MASSACHUSETTS (MA)

I am going to be putting aluminum foil under a electric stove. Is this ok to do? The foil will go on the ground itself (not inside the oven or stove) and then I am going to put the whole stove on top of the foil. I just want to have something covering the hardwood floor so that spills or grease doesn't get on the floor but rather on the foil. --173.0.x.xxx

I'm not sure that I like the idea of foil for this use. At the least it will not last long, IMHO. I/f I was this concerned I would find a more suitable "underliner" say from a restaurant supply house. No cheap, but very ppossibly safer --70.192.xx.x

Use a leftover piece of vinyl from that bathroom floor project. or a second layer of the very same wood flooring, just make it float. --141.129.x.xx

Frank: Any links to this liner? Its been difficult to find something appropriate.

I don't think I want to use vinyl as it too doesn't seem safe, but then again, hardwood floor can also burn if enough heat is applied. --173.0.x.xxx

Um, people have had electric stoves sitting on vinyl flooring for decades now. It isn't a problem.

I think perhaps you are obsessing about the wrong thing. A properly sealed wood floor will withstand a range on top of it with no problem. Cleaning up spills is pretty simple as long as the finish is in good condition.

You will have much greater damage from the wear spots in front of the appliances and water spilling on the floor in front of the sink (or the refrigerator "peeing" on the floor).

I have three units (out of seven) with electric ranges directly on hardwood. No problems. Same crud as on the vinyl, washes off about the same. Use ammonia if it's really greasy. --70.16.xx.xxx

Have a furnace company form a pan to fit, this holds the grease in one spot so the cockroaches dont have to travel for snacks. --75.94.xxx.xxx

I have taken a thin piece of sheet metal the dimensions of the stove bottom and slid that under the stove.

This has kept all kinds of crap off the floor. --76.237.xxx.xxx
