State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)

Question

Sewer backup today. Damage:Laundry room floor(peel/stick tile) removed, needs to be replaced.

apartment-rug removed, needs entire 1 bedroom re-carpeted, baseboards removed, needs to be replaced. Had to hire restoration company to remove and clean. Maintenance man repaired all plumbing.

I do not have all the bills. Guessing 4-6K, have deductible of $2500. Never filed a claim w/insurance.

Any input

If you have no other claims, I'd file on that. I normally do not file on damage less than $5k. My last claim was probably more than 5 years ago.

3 claims in 10 years will get you canceled. --141.129.x.xx

Did your insurance increase dramatically after you filed? Thanks

Also, anyone know if insurance will pay for sewer pipe repair/replace from property to city sewer? --64.53.xxx.xxx

Insurance is like a restaurant where the price is one thing, unless you actually order it, in which case the price doubles and you're not allowed to come back to the restaurant again.

I have a $10K deductible, so my insurance is for liability claims and when a building has severe damage. --64.197.xx.xx

I doubt if the insurance company would ever consider paying to replace that sewer pipe UNLESS it suffered damage that caused a collapse such as a huge work truck driving over it or something like that. It is considered a "repair" to your property after time [we've ALL had to replace those old clay pipes!].

Standard policies typically exclude sewer back-up coverage, unless you carry a special endorsement to include it. Was this laundry room, by chance, in a basement? --74.98.xxx.xxx

My policy does include sewer back up. I included it.

My building does not have a basement or garden level. It's a ground floor laundry room and apartment that were damaged.

Appraiser told me today on this coverage it's only a $250 deductible.. --64.53.xxx.xxx
