Tenant wants to bring in a weimaranar dog into the property and asking for permission. I would not say no if it is a golden retriever or another friendly breed. But I do not know weimaranar much. Does anybody here have experience with the breed and can give a suggestion?

Big and higher energy. I think they were hunting dogs somewhere. How old is it? That makes a lot of difference. If it's older it could be quieter. Is it a female? Perhaps quieter then.

But really is there a fenced area and is it a single family home? If so, it might not be that much of an issue. How much do you want to keep your tenant? Weigh the facts.

Why does tenant want this dog? Is it a relative's dog and this will be temporary? A college student child who came home with a dog? A stray? Or do they just want a dog and they think one of these is a good idea. It's probably not a good idea in a smaller rental. Suggest a small Beagle.

Raised a male and female with no problems both had great dispositions. Like any breed there is good and bad.

Can you meet the dog?

Do they have a previous LL you get a reference from? --108.235.xx.xx

Crazy high energy breed. They need room to run, but I don't think they are a highly intelligent dog that gets bored easily and acts out . I almost got one until I did the research ( I'm more of a Lab person). --24.177.xxx.xx

We have a Vizsla. Closely related to weimaranar.

Sporting dog with HIGH energy. Our dog is wonderful. Smart and loving. Knows where she can do her business. Actually from a landlord point of view I would say no problems with her. She has had a few accidents in the house due to medication. She doesn't scratch or chew on anything. She jumps on people because she is so excited to see them.

But, we also take good care of her, and she has plenty of space outside to burn off the energy. I would take this dog in a rental any day compared to some yippy yappy small dog. --24.240.xx.xxx

I don't let tenants 'get' dogs. If they have one when they come to me, we accept them because they are 1) house-trained 2) spayed or neutered 3) the tenant knows the dog and has some sort of relationship with them. 4) They have a vet.

Tenants with existing pets make great tenants if they are good pet owners. Tenants without pets that want one for the first time are HORRIBLE tenants. Especially when they choose a breed they can't control. --50.82.xxx.xxx

Thanks everybody for your quick responses! This is a family that we have for over two years now. They want to adopt a dog from a shelter and that is what they have their eyes on. The dog is two years old. The rental they are staying now is a SFH with a good size, fenced yard. --96.226.xx.xx

If you've had these tenants for over two years, you know if they have been responsible so far. If so, I say yes. --70.195.x.xxx

Had one male when I was in high school. My dad

used him and a female bird dog to hunt birds with.

The bred was absolutely loving, gentle good natured

dog, great kids dog. Good guard dog but would not of

bitten anyone. Just a loud bark. High energy, needs

walking or a big back yard to run. --74.236.xxx.xxx
