She thinks she is saving money? no gas turned on? can't get gas in her name? I think you did the only thing you can do by telling her what you did say. Even if you send a letter stating the facts, safety issues and energy savings, you can't really police the policy. --174.159.xxx.xxx

Gas or electric stove. If it's electric, they use it because they can't afford to get the gas turned on. --172.56.xx.xxx

Many folks do this as supplementary heat, what fuel is used to get hot water? Even if 2 top coils burnt out early and the oven parts would be easy and cost less than a furnace service call. --75.94.xxx.xxx

Using a stove for heating is very dangerous practice as a stove was never intended to used over extended period of time. With a electric stove this will put a strain on the elements and wiring in the stove. With natural gas there will be a carbon monoxide build up. The tenant should the heating system even if the room is above room temperature. Here room temperature is 20 degress celsius which is 68 in imperial. --74.220.xxx.xx

M,

Elec stoves used like this can cause the hidden wiring in the wall to overheat and start a fire.

If this house is gas heat, call the gas co and check the status of the service to the house. I predict they have not put the gas into their name. --67.175.xx.xxx
