I have a potential tenant asking if we allow an indoor box trained rabbit? Has anyone had an experience with tenants keeping rabbits??? --204.152.xxx.xxx

They love to chew: baseboards, door frames, the corners of doors, wiring, etc.

If the box is not kept clean, you can end up with permanent stink in the house.

Stop by their current residence. You will be able to make a judgment call from the doorway. --141.129.x.xx

My daughter had one in my house for years . Rabbits are high maintence if you don't want your house to stink. So long as they change the liter box every other day. They are fine. Now she did bring in one of her outside rabbits once to try and make it an inside bunny. It peed on my walls, and had to go outside rather quickly. I doubt a tenant would provide the necessary maintence that the rabbit cage would need. If I allowed one, I would charge my 25 per month pet fee. --66.169.xxx.xxx

No pets means NO pets. One tenant I had thought this didn't apply to caged pets. He let them out all the time. --50.129.x.xxx

My neighbors have a pet rabbit that lives in their laundry room, and has a cage he goes into at night. He ate some of their weed work and tried to eat the wired behind their washer and dryer, but otherwise has been pretty a low-key, quiet pet. I 'bunny sat' him at my house once and kept him in a guest room... and he managed to dig out an entire corner of my carpeting! Another friend used to have a several 'free range' pet rabbits and never had any trouble with them. I wouldn't say no to a rabbit but I would be sure I got a non-refundable pet fee plus a monthly pet rent to counteract any possible damage that could occur. --198.70.xxx.xxx

A former SO and I once had a pet turtle in a Florida apt. It lived in the bathtub ate salad and we took it for walks and desert in the park. They walk reeeeeeally slowly. We let it go after awhile, it didn't seem happy in the tub. Luckily our LL never found out.

Thanks for the memory. :-) --24.156.xx.xxx

Sorry, but no.

EVERYBODY'S animals are "litter trained" or perfect in some other way.

You have no way knowing what will happen once they move in. Cats and dogs are much more predictable.

We had a res bring in a rabbit without permission. Said it was trained.

When they moved out the carpet under every piece of furniture was urine soaked and TONS of rabbit poo everywhere. --67.175.xx.xxx

My long term good paying tenant has one. She put an extra carpet down over my wall to wall carpet to protect it when they let the bunny out. It's very clean and no mess in the apt. But they are very clean people. Maybe you need to pay a home visit and stop by their current residence with some papers. --69.141.xxx.x

I wouldn't. Rabbits chew and are generally messy. They can be trained to use a litter box, but in my opinion they really belong outdoors. (They like it better outside too.) --70.143.xx.xx

Someone gave us a rabbit once, and I gave it to my granddaughter. It chewed off all of her Barbie doll's feet, peed everywhere and actually attacked her once out of nowhere - jumping on her back, biting and kicking her when she was sitting on the floor playing with the (footless) Barbies.

We called him Bunnicula because he was so evil!

He went to a farm in the country - my DIL swears that is true...

Another friend had a pet bunny - litter box trained - if he happened to be near it. He also liked to go in the fireplace and under the couch and under the bed...

They are not very smart animals. Kind of like ferrets. Stinky and stupid. --50.82.xxx.xxx
