If I sell my rented property, can the buyer ask for the tenants background?

If I was purchasing the property, I would want to know everything about the tenant and demand the entire file on the tenant or I wouldn't buy it the property. I don't know if that helps you out or not, but as a buyer that is where I would stand. --64.151.xx.xx

I would not hand over my tenant's records to a new buyer. All that is required in a sale is to forward any security deposit to the new owner.

It is not up to the present owner to pass on personal and private information. Do not do it. Tenant could sue for invasion of privacy???? The application and lease is the property of the present owner.

All the new owner gets is the name, address, and rent amount of current tenants.

Let the new buyer give the tenants his own application to fill out and do his own credit checking to see if he wants to keep the current tenants. Otherwise, the buyer could ask the owner to sell the property without the tenants.

The new buyer certainly can ask the seller for financial records but no way for personal records on the tenants.
