State Specific Question About: NEW YORK (NY)
Land lord has lease term starting Sept 15th, 2013 and ending Sept 14th, 2014. Is this legal?

Why would it not be legal? Sept. 15 through Sept 14 is one year. This is exactly what I do.
Some landlords prefer to have their leases end at month's end, so they might decide to have the lease run from Sept 15 through August 31 (or through Sept 30). But this is not a question of "legal" or not.
If the Landlord is going to be collecting rent on the first of the month, it is probably easier to adjust the lease end date to a month end, just to avoid having to pro-rate twice. But this is a question of the LL's convenience, not of legality!

Noon Sept 15, 2013 to Noon Sept 14, 2014 is a day short of one year.
If you are born on noon sept 15, 2013, then when do you turn one year old, noon sept 14, 2014 or noon sept 15, 2014? --108.226.xx.xxx |

But, 12:01am Sept 15, 2013 to 11:59pm Sept 14, 2014 is one year (minus 2 minutes). --108.226.xx.xxx |

A contract just needs to have a starting date and an ending date, it can be 245 days or 956 days ect., Whatever the lease (contract) states, doesn't matter. --184.155.xx.xx |
