Just making certain -
For a month-to-month tenant, how much written notice must I give before raising the rent?
Thank you.

How many days notice do you have to give to terminate the month to month lease? --63.142.xxx.xx |

Under MD law, the notice of a rent increase is similar to a notice to terminate the existing lease, and must comply with the laws relating to the notice required to terminate a tenancy. --99.126.xx.xx |

Sorry, got my states mixed up...
Maine law states:
§6015. Notice of rent increase
Rent charged for residential estates may be increased by the lessor only after providing at least 45 days' written notice to the tenant. A written or oral waiver of this requirement is against public policy and is void. --99.126.xx.xx |

In Maine you must give 45 days notice for a rent increase. Too late today for September 1. --64.222.xxx.xxx |

So you can give 31 days notice to terminate the lease but have to give 45 days notice to increase the rent?
Give your tenant 31 days notice to terminate the lease and then show him your ad in Craigslist to rent the same place for the higher rent. What a stupid ordinance. --96.42.xxx.xxx |

Thanks everyone!!
K, In my rental agreement it says that a 30-day move-out notice must be given (on the first day of the calendar month). --67.253.xxx.xx |

K, I presume the logic of 45 days is to give the tenant an opportunity to look for another place before having to give a 30 day notice. If you are competitively priced it can actually work to your advantage. --64.222.xxx.xxx |
