State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)

What is the liability of tenant working on landscaping? --69.47.xxx.xxx

Are you referring to hiring a tenant to do landscaping, or is he or she doing this of his or her own volition? For example, is the tenant trimming bushes, mowing lawn, etc. as part of the regular upkeep of a single family home?

If it's just typical work, I don't see the liability as being any different than anything else a tenant does around the house. Just have good insurance with umbrella coverage for any potential issues. --99.101.xxx.xxx

I am thinking it is like many things tenants work on, plan for the repair cost to be 3-5 times what it would be if a qualified person was in charge. Charge them a bonding fee before they begin or just say no. --75.94.xxx.xxx

If you are paying them (or discounting their rent in exchange for work) then they are your hired agent. Unless they are insured (they aren't) then you are potentially liable for injuries. They could fall off a 6 inch step stool, hurt their back and be out of work for 3 months. You will be liable if you hired them (directly or indirectly) to do this work. --64.197.xx.xx

RB, I figured the liability at 27.3% with said rake. Where did your 0.2% come from?

Nevermind - I forgot to add for the partly cloudy day!
