That is a specific question to your city,I am upstate and have property in cities where it is required that the landlord provide cans and other areas that don't say anything either way --72.224.xx.x

Beware, trash is big business. Cities like Los Angeles and West Hollywood, California prostitute themselves for the all mighty buck.

When West Hollywood decided to sign one contract to cover the entire City, so that each home owner, apartment owner and commercial business wouldn't have to have an expensive private contract -- RATES WENT UP AN AVERAGE OF 50 %.

In Los Angeles, apartment buildings with 5 or more units are commercial and aren't entitled to separate tenant paid bins - (Black for common trash, Blue for recyclables and Green for yard work).

So when a new owner get a property and gets a company to provide a large 3 yard bin container with weekly pick ups, tenants are still charged for separate Black, Blue and Green bins even though they were returned, lost or stolen. --173.60.xx.xxx

My area has some new focus on trash, lids must be cabled to the cans, they hit the trash collectors but the city still dishes out the tickets, especially to the multi places where 6-8-10 cans have no covers, fines goes by the can.

Evicting for no payment is simply that, don't let drama get in the way. --75.94.xxx.xxx

I'm sure it depends on the area you are in. I would think if it is city trash and you buy the can directly from them the LL would buy them and then charge the tenant if they damage or take with them.

My units don't have city trash pickup but I bought the cans to make sure they properly stored garbage until it is picked up. --205.156.xxx.xxx

I buy the cans to prevent issues. I get square ones that do not roll down the street in the wind. They have wheels. Some have attached lids. They hold under 40 lbs because that is the limit that the collectors will take. I also make sure they get to the curb and the cans get back in so the lids don't blow away. I paint the house number on them. You get out what you put in. --69.141.xxx.xxx
