State Specific Question About: FLORIDA (FL)

I live in a 56 unit condominium. Hava a water leak. The delema is to shut the water off. The valve to shut off is in one of the unit owners apartment. He said that someone will be home to shut the water off. He lies and I have had a plumer come in and have to pay $75.00 for service call twise. The board said that they are not responsible. And he would not give me his Apt key. Please advice me what to do.

A friend of mine who used to be a Plummer was telling me about a repair in one of his condos. No way to turn off water except the whole building affecting everyone. He told me he put some type of deal inside the supply line in his unit to stop he water flow.... Wish I had understood it more when he told me. Or i would think could you cut the supply line into the unit and shove a pex cutoff valve on it real fast. Shouldn't leak more than a couple gallons while you are doing that. --66.169.xxx.xxx

If they can't be home, would the neighbor be willing to let the condo manager let the plumber in while he shuts the water off & then let him back in to turn it on once the repairs are done. Is there a shut off in the street or sidewalk for the whole building?

What to the condo bylaws say about emergency access? Ask the board what happens when their is a burst pipe & units are getting ruined?

Once you finally gain access have your plumber install a ball valve style shutoff in your unit even if it means opening a wall to do it. He should be able to install an access door where the new shut off is. I suggest that you also have him install quarter turn ball valves at all of the fixtures. --98.110.xxx.xx

The water can be turned off at the street. The city or water company might have to do it. While most plumbers do not have such equipment, there is equipment that will deliberately freeze a short section of piping to block flow for limited periods of time. --67.213.xx.xx

To avoid this problem in the future have the plumbing install some isolation ball valves so the water can be shut off in the unit without having the water shut off somewhere else. --216.110.xxx.xx

A block of dry ice should freeze it so it can be cut and put shutoffs on it,I would think your plumber would have suggested this. --72.224.xx.x
