State Specific Question About: PENNSYLVANIA (PA)
I have someone who wants to look at apt. who tells me domestic violence follows her every where, than wants deal on security, how do we tell this person we do not want to rent to them, because we don't want trouble at our building? Can we legally tell them we don't want trouble therefore do not want to rent to her? --72.28.xx.xx |

Tell her other LL have reported problems, and you are unable to accept the liabilities associated with her previous associates.
Nothing personal just a business decision. --98.253.xxx.xxx |

I did not know until a licensed professional who's on the board of several women against violence groups, a PHD with 30 years in the field told me, "That a small group of women are the cause of domestic violence -- at that time maybe 5% of the cases". So this issue is real and a landlord should we advised if told a women looses control and hits her husband/partner, it's not foreplay, it's battery and assault. --173.55.xx.xxx |

You don't have to make a deal on the security deposit for anyone.
Let her apply and screen as usual. You don't have a legal reason to tuirn down until she gives you one.
Something else will screen her out for sure. Probably moves too often (you want at least 1-2 years tenancy), or reported damage at prior place not paid for (lowered security-remember?), or not job stable. If she is the cause and has been arrested, a record of violent crime would do it for me. --174.130.xx.xxx |

Sounds like a Red herring. Like it has been said before, screen as usual. Credit, background, and landlord checks. Most likely will qualify herself right out of your apartment. --72.80.xx.xxx |

Thank you all for your answers, I was going to screen her just like any others. What a relief when she decided it was to small. Thank you to all who responded. --72.28.xx.xx |

No, don't say why you will not to them, just say that you have to apply the same criteria to everyone. How did you get her to admit that violence follows her around? Druggies! --75.18.xxx.xxx |
