I received this message from my cousin . I looked it up and low and behold it's on the level:

There was an article in todays paper about an INTERNET problem that may affect your computer. There is a government website that can check your computer to see if you are infected: www.dcwg.org It has all the instructions necessary to check and clean your computer if you are affected. Hundreds of thousands will lose internet access in July if they are affected. You can search the web for dcwg.org to verify this. Rich

Evidently it will affect both Apple and Microsoft OS --108.220.xxx.xx

I saw this in the paper and that the FBI was encouraging everyone to go to its site and scan their computer through it.

My skeptical side immediately decided that this was a way for the government to gain access to all personal computers, but I think like this, given the history we know.

So...I dunno. --69.136.xxx.xxx

Message:

This is the real deal and not some government tin foil. The government, led by private companies, took this virus over. They are unable to shut it down as that will effectively stop your internet from working, if your computer is infected. --74.232.xxx.xx

When I hear, "We are from the government, we are here to help." That means hide your pocketbook, and your guns.

Sorry, I would far rather have my computer shut down by a virus than voluntarily connect it to the FBI.

Besides my SO is a computer genius. If it's so broke she can't fix it, we need a new one. LOL --209.183.xx.xxx

What James said, it is real...I read the article in PC Magazine last week. There is a link that takes you to a test site, if the graphic they show you has a green background you're safe, a red background indicates infection. I did the test...no antivirus warnings went off, no firewall blocking, no script alerts...there was no evidence something was trying to be installed on my computer, I don't think it's any devious plot by the government. --69.47.xx.xxx

Message:

Those short version, for those that don't want to read much about it and just quickly see if they have to worry about it -- is to just go here:

www.dns-ok.us

If you go there and see a picture with a green background, you are fine. If it is a red background, then you should worry.

Note that that site doesn't run anything, doesn't install anything, doesn't DO anything other than be a simple web page that displays an image. So, no big worries just going there to take a quick look.

We've already removed this malware from several PCs over the last few weeks -- so it is making the rounds.

Also, to note it, that web site that I listed to do this check is NOT owned or even affiliated with the government. It is registered and owned by Paul Vixie -- a long-time and well-known Unix software developer that has contributed a ton to the internet community over the past decades. So, no worries on the "FBI monitoring my PC" stuff from that one either.
