State Specific Question About: NEW JERSEY (NJ)
can tenant bury pet in landlord's backyard without permission? --71.224.xx.xx |

I believe it's illegal most places to bury pets in the yard.
That being said, we have all our pets in our yard.
I wouldn't be happy about a tenant burying their pet on MY property. On the other hand, if you tell them they must take the pet with them when they move, they might take other action.
I'm surprised you even found out about it. They usually wouldn't ask permission. --99.18.xx.xx |

I have at least one buried at one of mine. A few years after the fact I just removed the marker. AFAIK it is not illegal here. --141.129.x.xx |

I don't see a problem with it. Animals die all the time and nature takes care of it. Burying it just keeps it from smelling, being strewn about etc.
I just buried a horse for my tenant on the property they rent. (my back hoe) Thought it was the easiest for them and no problem for me. --71.164.xxx.xxx |

burying fluffy in the backyard is no different than burying some compost. In a year nothing left but black dirt and a few bones . This is nothing to worry about . --108.220.xxx.xx |

Please tell them that their dog has a little spirit that will stay with them. I'm sure they are very sad, so please give them some compassion. I can see dog spirits now and then and they never leave us. I have a Yorkie spirit here and actually saw his little shadow the other night. --69.141.xxx.xxx |

Okay, so the question is about a tenant of yours burying a dead pet in the rental's yard? Yikes, that's one I haven't seen yet on this site, and I know that MY lease doesn't address that. I would first check with the locality as to any prohibitions about burying dead animals on personal property. If there is a law against locally, then tenants must dig up and dispose of properly (local vet can help with that info).
If no law against, then it really depends on how you feel about it. --96.227.x.xx |
