State specific Question about Michigan.

Tenants lease expires end of August. I will not renew the lease. Do I need to send them a notice? How much notice is required or no notice is necessary.

In most states, 30+ days...be safe and do 60+ tell a white lie saying you want to do some renovations/repairs/upgrades... --96.239.xxx.xx

Send a vanilla non-renewal letter before June 28, but ask yourself if you can refill quickly at this time of year? Most people with families want to be settled in before the school year begins, maybe you would consider a 6 month extension to save finding a tenant during the slow moving time. --76.241.xxx.xxx

Fixed term lease you better give them AS MUCH NOTICE as possible for them to find other housing.....Aug availability may miss the school start in the South --184.5.xxx.xxx

I don't know if you are legally required to give them notice, but why wouldn't you do it anyway? Send them a written letter in June, telling them that you will not be renewing because of your need to do renovations, thanking them for their tenancy and giving them your move-out requirements/check-lists.
