I have a bath room vanity that has water damage, no mold or mildew. It is typical made of particle board and once wet, swelled up and layered off. As this it a high end rental, I am looking for any ideas, somewhere in between replacing the bottom and not covering it with contact paper. Any thoughts from your experience. --24.242.xxx.xx |

We add a strip of 1/2" or 3/4" Koma (a type of plastic wood) to the bottom of all our vanities prior to installation. It acts as a barrier to prevent water from wicking up into the "fallaparicle" board most inexpensive vanities are made from. We also coat the raw edge on the vanity bottom with poly to help seal the wood. --72.85.xxx.xxx |

Sometimes one can pick up a vanity complete at the Habitat for Humanity restore for a very reasonable price. Even if the vanity is used the vanity will be still usable. --74.220.xxx.xxx |

I cut the last one out and replaced it with a pc of Luan. I have also used stick down floor tile to cover/protect the wood. --67.236.xxx.xxx |

I sealed it then put ceraminc tile down. Still looks beautiful and now it is waterproof and easier to clean. --174.130.xxx.xx |

I have fixed a couple that were swelled just around the floor by wrapping the vanity with baseboard. Peeled the swelled up stuff off so I could get a good fit, put silicone caulk under the baseboard so it wouldn't get wet again and it doesn't look too bad. --75.32.xx.xxx |

Our rental bathroom remodel, I raised
our vanity up off the floor by placing tile
under the edges of the vanity. The
quarter round covers this so you don't see
it but it keeps standing water splashed
out of the bathtub by kids from being
soaked up by the bottom of the vanity.
Also we cut out the inside bottom
and replaced laid in another new cut
heavier plywood bottom that is removable
if it needs to be replaced later. I sealed
it with poly to make it water tight, should
last long time. also put coat of clear
poly on the outside of cabinet to help
seal the wood from spashed water out of the
tub. --74.236.xxx.xxx |

best/easiest way is a piece of scrap sheet vinyl flooring, just laid in place - no glue needed.
