Tree branch fell and put hole in rental property roof. Insurance company is only paying for 1/2 the roof to be replaced. This seems unacceptable to me not to mention I will have a ridiculous looking roof with 1/2 old faded shingles and 1/2 new shingles. My handyman says I need to fight harder with the insurance company to get a total roof replacement but that seems very unrealistic...Advice??

They could do a depreciation on the whole roof depending on how old it is you might come out with less than half --96.238.xxx.xxx

We often roof half a house and charge it off as a repair...

Nice Insurance company trying to keep rates down...too many propel use it as a repair policy. --67.175.xxx.xx

If the roof is 10-12 years old, it is not reasonable to expect a total replacement since you would then be better off than before the damage. How old was your roof? --66.226.xx.xxx

I would never report a small hole to the insurance company and get my rates bumped up as well as a hit on the CLUE report. I'd repair it myself, if it were any less than catastrophic. I think that was a mistake.

That said, you get a repair, not a roof replacement, for a hole. If the roof is old, they can depreciate the value. --65.55.xx.xxx

Is this the same Rachel-NC who posted at 12:26 - if you do not like the color do the whole front or rear to get a match, after reading the other post I thought your handyman already had this under control. --76.241.xxx.xx
