Has anyone ever worn one of those motion sickness
patch behind the ear while on a cruise ship ?
I have heard you should try it out before you go
that it could have make you sick. Did anyone
try them out first or have any problems with one? --74.236.xxx.xxx |

Try to book a room near midship..which will have less motion...the most motion will be near the rear end...also do some research about the seasons to take a cruise, to find out when the seas are more violent...me thinks spring and fall...during higher than normal storms... --96.239.xxx.xx |

Scopolomine patch. No, but it's supposed to be good. When I fly aerobatics I take Phenegran which is an anti-nausea. I'm not supposed to as it can make you drowsy, but trust me nobody is going to fall asleep while upside down spinning toward the ground in an airplane... LOL --76.170.xxx.xxx |

I take a Dramamine 20 minutes before heading out onto the ocean. I have friends that swear by the wrist bands, I have never tried them
I have my Dramamine ready as I'm going to cruise Alaska soon. --76.231.xxx.xx |

I was very worried about motion sickness before our first cruise last year -- since I get dizzy if I just spin around a couple of times.
I did a lot of research -- both from the medical side and from asking a LOT of people on a popular cruise forum. In the end, what seemed to work best -- and DID end up working great for me -- was ginger gum. Specifically, I used the Sea-Band gum shown here:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000K7B5FC
In the beginning, I just chewed some fairly often the first day. After that, I just chewed one if I had the slightest feeling that I might be feeling a bit funny. Worked great -- no problems on the trip at all!
Note that MythBusters did a segment once on anti-nausea stuff. In the end, the thing that worked the best for both of the test subjects: ginger pills! :)
Note that I haven't tried the pills -- when doing my research on the ginger stuff before, I found that people liked the gum better for things like cruises because it was an instant thing. The pills are more for planning ahead for a shorter trip (i.e. a 2-hour boat ride, not a days-long thing like a cruise).

I have my 14th cruise booked this year. My hubby gets very seasick and I can also. We take Bonine. We take half a pill in the morning and half at nite. It's not suppose to make you drowsy but It does make us alittle. If we are porting that day we dont take any in the morning. Only on sea days and before we go to bed. I've heard good things about ginger stuff and plan on trying it next. The patches are not recommended by the cruise ships. They are fine for one day but after days, they start to cause porblems, such as headaches , blurred vision, dry mouth. The even post signs at the medical center on the ship, not to use them. --98.94.xx.xxx |

And yes mid ship, lower is best for motion. If I were you I'd get Bonine, ginger pills or gum and Phenegan( perscription). Phenegan is for severe nausa and will knock you out, but I keep some just in case. If I do feel ill , fresh air helps.
I plan on starting with the ginger this year and only take the bonine if the ginger doesnt work. --98.94.xx.xxx |

Had great luck with Bonine and Dramamine. Bonine makes you less drowsy. Sister was not so lucky with patch.Side effects were bad and don't go away as soon as patch is off. Didn't see too many people with patch on recent cruise. I'd try it out before you go to make sure it doesn't ruin trip. --66.189.xxx.xxx |

Years ago, my then-lady tried the patch. She was very sick, until she took the patch off. Shje was sick from the patch, not from the motion. I recommend Bonine or those silly wrist bands with the button on them -- I don't think the wrist bands do a darn thing, but motion sickness is mostly in the head, so the placebo effect is enough.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try that ginger gum and hard candy. Went to my doctor and he gave me the patch but I am so afraid of side effects. And he told me it has a list a mile long of side effects.... go figure. I like the all natural gum and will take the bonnie and dramine stuff along on the trip. --74.236.xxx.xxx |

Never tried the patches, but constantly get motion sickness from airplanes; carnival rides; boat trips; etc.... Tried Dramamine pills and other things with little success. Found (for me) that simply chewing on mints did the trick... not sure why but its worth a try. --76.23.xx.xx |

don't use scopalomine if you have high blood pressure. Dramamine can make you drowsy . Since a cruise is an expensive investment I'd ask my Dr for what they would recommend since they know you as a pt. Pot is a powerful anti-emetic and is Kentucky's largest cash crop so you might consider that . It would also make those buffets look better too (LOL) --99.103.xxx.xxx |
