State Specific Question About: INDIANA (IN)
Hey, Just wondering, if someone had died in a rental space in the last year, must I disclose it to a potential renter? --76.29.xxx.xxx |

They will find out eventually. Waiting may give them excuse to bolt. --63.76.xxx.xx |

I always Wondered what that had to do with the price of Rice in China ???
What is the usual and customary length of time after someone dies that their having died in that location no longer matters ?
We're not as far removed from superstitious fears as we'd like to believe or we wouldn't have to deal with that kind of mumbo jumbo.
If you lived on the Navajo Reservation you'd have to board up the place and no one could ever live there again. I remember when we first moved to Chinle, az and we saw all these government housing units ( paid for by our tax dollars) they looked pretty new but were vacant and boarded up . We were told that someone had died in them so now it was forbidden for anyone to live in them again . Not even the medicine man could remove the spirits of the dead from them . --99.95.xxx.xxx |

Usually you have to disclose it. Check your state laws. It is usually 1-3 years, not forever. Indians aside... --76.170.xxx.xxx |

As I understand Indiana law, no.
However, every neighbor will be sure the new tenant hears all the gory details, so I tell them.
"Just so you are aware, someone died here recently." end of explanation.
We have an apt with a grizzly murder (he smashed her skull with a frying pan) It was all over the front page and they printed it again every time there was a hearing (for MONTHS!!)
Not a hitch re-renting it. --67.175.xx.xxx |

If you are hospitalized, do you demand a room in which no one has ever died? --66.226.xx.xxx |

I did tell them that the previous tenant passed away last year and left it at that....which is the truth...without saying it occured in the unit. --76.29.xxx.xxx |

Had a prospective tenant ask me if there was a ghost in the building via phone call. I suspected that there was since I had a photo of an orb in one of the hallways. That is a round light that is a form that spirits use rather than a full body apparition.
A tenant had died after moving out but he had lived there for 30 years. Or it could have been my Dad's spirit helping me with the buildings.
I told her that there might be a spirit there and she said thank you and did not come out to see the apartment.
Interesting about the Navajos and their beliefs that spirits remain in homes. I suspect a lot of them do remain in their homes if there was a great attachment to the home. But if people don't learn to coexist with them, no one would have a place to live. Maybe the Navajo spirits try to push people out by doing mean and scary things.
There are lots of dog and cat spirits in homes but mostly people don't notice them. --76.99.xxx.xxx |

I certainly noticed the cat spirit that remained with the rehab I bought. Fortunately with enough time and effort I believe I've successfully neutralized it and sealed it in so the next tenants won't have to notice it. --12.21.xxx.xxx |

Recently I had a tenant commit suicide. The prospective tenants who wanted the space were sure to find out, so I told them right awy. I also said, "Well, it's an older home - probably hard to find a place where SOMEONE hasn't died..." and they agreed. They said, "Well we didn't KNOW her...we still want the place!" --173.16.xx.xxx |

No.
Not relevant in Indiana. Someone died everywhere we walk.
I might tell them conversationally, though. "It was sad that Myrtle died here recently; she was a great tenant and I hope you love the place as much as she did." --65.55.xx.xxx |
