State Specific Question About: NEW YORK (NY)
The house next door was recently sold and has been under renovation for months. They had a fire recently that caused some damage to my property. The new owner doesn't live there and is never around. I've left my phone number with the workers and a house sitter that he has but he hasn't called me to discuss the damages. How do I go about finding out who his insurance company is so I can have the damages fixed. Or is there another approach I should take. I don't want to go through my insurance company becuase the deductible is more than the cost of damages. --74.73.xxx.xxx |

Can you find the name of new owner using some county tax website or even real estate transactions? Once you have a name, you can find almost anyone using various internet searches.
You might also want to consider contacting your local town inspector, official, etc. to explain about the damage. They should have the name of the new owner. --75.4.xxx.xxx |

There is the possibility your neighbor does not have insurance on the house he fixing up. Regardless though, I would get the guys phone number from the people who are working on that house. --76.18.xxx.xxx |

The name of the new owner should be available both from the County Recorder's Office (he would be the grantee listed in the Grant Deed) and from the Tax Assessor's Office. The address should be available from the Assessor's Office. Write and present your demand. If he doesn't pay, file a Small Claims lawsuit against him.
Forget his insurance, go after him personally. It is up to him to turn the claim over to his insurance (or not).

Turn it in to your insurance company and let them take care of business, that is what you pay them for.
As the worker they know who they are working for,but why chase, you have done that... --67.163.xx.xxx |

If they are renovating the place then they have to have permits. Go to the City Inspector's office, they will have it on file. If that don't work, call your insurance co. --24.224.xx.xx |

Prompt notice to YOUR insurance may be required under the terms of YOUR policy in order to preserve YOUR benefits under that policy. I suggest that you find out about that. --66.226.xx.xx |
