State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)
If I start eviction on a tenant do I need someone to give it to the tenant or can I give it to them? --99.140.xxx.xx |

You can deliver it yourself. Make sure you hand it to them. You are not allowed to tape it to the door. If you aren't successful after a few attempts it would probably be more cost effective to hire a process server.
It sounds like you are new to evictions. It may be worth your while to hire an attorney to handle the first one for you. At a minimum I recommend you go to court prior to your eviction to get a feel for the judge and the process. --98.212.xxx.xxx |

What is "it"? A notice or a summons?
You must follow IL law, but in many states you can serve a notice yourself, but you cannot serve a summons yourself.

You would be dollars ahead to hire a flat-fee eviction service, make 3 copies of the lease and get your unit back so you can put a paying tenant in there. --76.241.xxx.xx |

John, Illinois law is on the side of the tenants, take my advise and hire an attorney.
I had an eviction last year that took me for ever, had to fired my first attorney and hire another one to finish the case, thank God that the it took the second attorney only 17 days. I was very lucky he was a hell of a good attorney. --4.159.xxx.xx |
