State Specific Question About: OREGON (OR)
I am thinking of buying rental property in Oregon and wonder if there is much difference from county to county re taxation and landlord/tenant laws?
Also, I have never dealt with a HOA, but notice a number of properties I am looking at, have these. Any tips on what I should watch out for with a HOA?
I am currently not living in Oregon, though I have in the past and plant to retire there. I am wondering how badly I will be hit as a non-resident landlord in my taxes?
This will be my first 1031 exchange and any pitfall info would also be appreciated.
THANKS!!! --24.5.xx.xxx |

Unless you know someone who lives in the community or has a rental there I would not buy in a HOA community. Some HOA's have rules that are a pain and can even restrict renting or limit the number of rentals allowed. I became the president of my HOA rental to protect my investment. --71.202.xxx.xx |

HI MM... WELL WHAT PART OF OREGON?
HOA'S ARE USUALLY NOT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.. LOTS OF RESTRICTIVE RULES ... FOR GOOD REASONS. 20 YRS AGO.. BUT NOT TODAY --207.200.xxx.xx |

I can tell you that you are better off to not have to deal with HOA's As for Oregon in particular I have no idea. --99.151.xx.xx |

No difference in county-to-county laws or taxation as far as I now. I would avoid HOA's altogether for rentals. No extra taxes non-residents. The only pitfall would be long-distance landlording. --71.236.xxx.xx |

Google HOA and you will avoid HOA like Rod suggested. I would think owning a rental with HOA would be nightmare. --99.62.xxx.xxx |

First get on the HOA so you can get some control, you will move there anyway just to police the HOA agreement. --76.241.xxx.xx |
