State Specific Question About: WASHINGTON (WA)

I work in a large building and we have one floor that always reeks of marijuana. I have walked around and sniffed by each door to try to figure out which apartment it may be coming from but it's so strong its as if the whole floor is smoking. Can anyone offer any tips on what one can do if there is no proof of who it is ? Thanks! --173.10.xx.xxx

Is Drug agent part of your Job description ? Does Washington have medical Marijuana laws ? Or you might be right the whole floor's smoking the stuff? At any rate what's the point ? Unless you have a dog in the fight what's the big deal ?? --99.151.xx.xx

I think he has a right to not want it on his property. I caught some tenants growing it, had the dang pots sitting right out front my mobile home, & I can promise you we sent their butts packing.... for one thing as long as its illegal, & the other thing, most of the bums that use it are not that productive.

I confronted a dude that called us back today about a rental. I point blank asked him if he hadn't been in trouble with the law? He said no. I asked, "What about that arrest for MJ?" He said, oh yeah, well, that was a long time ago.... he was the one that not only wanted us to work with him on the deposit, but the rent too!

Heck no, NEXT? --71.51.xx.xx

BTW, for anyone that cares, in the CL ads, if they say "420" friendly, that's code for marajuana. --71.51.xx.xx

So would that be the CL ad that reads...

"420 friendly landlord seeking unemployed tenants with chemical dependency, 2 pit bulls and an Escalade to destroy nice home. All utilities paid, $250 month, no deposit necessary." --76.87.xx.xx

Yes LL, you are on track - do not forget those all night lawn parties with the speakers plugged into the escalade or chrome plated hummer, tie the dog inside to guard the house from someone using the front door. --76.241.xxx.xx

Leave them alone unless anyone else

is complaining. I would rather them smoke

I have seen ads like this:

"Looking for 420 friendly ROOMMATE",

Of course you wouldn't know if they are your tenant unless you reply to the ad... ;-) --71.51.xx.xx

Personally I wouldn't care. Neither should you, unless you own the building. You say you work there, you don't say you own it. Don't you have better things to do? lol --66.173.xxx.xxx

I don't like or agree with its use. But I have had friends who smoke mar. after work like a lot of people have a beer. They have basically convinced me that the casual pot smokers are usually laid back individuals who keep to themselves and don't cause trouble. It's the crack and meth users that I worry about. Or useless potheads that I don't want around smoking or not! --70.250.xxx.xx

I don't allow smoking--legal or illegal. I had a tenant very recently who was smoking Spice. That is the chemical equivalent of MJ. It is legal in many states including my own. However, it , as MJ, can be a gateway to other drugs AND can be mixed with more dangerous drugs. In my county and in my state ,lawmakers are working to outlaw it.

The tenant who was smoking it was also recently arrested on an outstanding drug warrant of $25,000 cash bail from the state of UTah for drug trafficking. She is currently being extradited back to UTAH. Her suspicious behavior lead me and my husband to dig deeper than the background check I did through this site. The background check done here showed nothing. We did a federal background check and bingo, she was wanted and fleeing from the law.

When I went in to clean up the place after she was arrested, black soot cover the walls and furniture. She was only there 3 months. SO I repeat, I don't allow smoking--illegal or not illegal.

So what's the danger in allowing it? Well, if you enjoy black soot covering your walls and the possibly of some laid back idiot letting your place burn down, then I guess there is no big deal. Me--it's a big deal. I don't like drug dealers or users. Period. I gotta abide by the laws and so do my tenants. --74.45.xx.xx

This whole pot smoking thing came up in my neighborhood monthly poker get-together w/the guys last night. one guy (very successful professional and pretty straight-laced) said he smoked it starting in seventh grade, and he's pretty sure his 17 year old daughter is smoking it now. He didn't seem overly worried and said within 10 years it's going to be legal anyway. He said he'd much rather have his daughter smoking a little pot instead of drinking and driving, or doing worse drugs. I think the U.S. is generally moving towards legalizing this stuff. At first I was dead set against it (I truly tried it once 25 years ago, but never inhaled...didn't know how!), but now I'm starting to think it's like a much milder version of alcohol. Never saw a bar fight started by too much marijuana. ;-) I have no desire to smoke it...just saying. --173.30.xxx.xx

Call your law enforcement or drug unit and tell them your are having a drug problem in your rental property and you need some help finding out who is smoking pot in your building. You are legally as guilty if you know there is a problem on your proerty. Tell them to bring the drug dog with them that would be easier. --68.12.xxx.xxx

I guess I just don't understand the mentality you are describing in your friend Dan. I don't get it. Where I live a DUI stands for driving under the influence . That means alcohol or drugs. MJ is a drug and even if the daughter isn't drinking and driving how does the friend know she isn't smoking and driving. Same results in this state. She's under arrest. Not to be rude, but your friend sounds like he's in denial. I work with high school kids as a teacher. If they are toking up, they are doing waaayyy more. Take my word for it. --74.45.xx.xx
