State Specific Question About: WASHINGTON (WA)

I need to evict a tenant in Washington State but I am being told I need an attorney. I thought I could do this on my own like I can in Tennessee. Could anyone help me with this? --76.121.xxx.xxx

I would greatly doubt that you NEED an atty. The Constitional right to be represented by counsel also is a Constitutional right to represent yourself.

To the best of my knowledge, no NATURAL person needs to be represented by an atty in any state of the US. (Corporations, trusts, and other non-NATURAL persons are often required to appear only through a licensed atty.)

Now, it is possible that there are numerous procedural pitfalls and difficulties in WA eviction law such that you are much better off with an atty. Or it is possible that you are not in WA -- in which case, only an atty is allowed to represent you (to appear on your behalf) in court in WA -- your brother-in-law is NOT allowed to appear on your behalf (unless he is an atty).

But you are ALLOWED to do it on your own.

Here in Kansas you can do it your self if you can just manage to figure out how.(LOL) Court clerk will not assist , county atty will only tell you to "get an atty". Atty's here jealously guard the 'secrets" to keep the business in their courts. And then when you call around looking for someone to do an eviction they're all too busy. --99.117.xxx.xxx

You are a later comer - more than 2 weeks late. Why not try this: pay an eviction lawfirm to do the serving, then proceed yourself, using professional notice and proof of service. ** There light be a LDP who can help? Or use the law firm if they offer a flat rate eviction. court costs are so high (in CA) the difference might be worth it, even if you could do it yourself. (I found, many move out when they get such a notice by process server, as they know the game is up). --125.25.xxx.xx
