State Specific Question About: NEW YORK (NY)
Can anyone recommend a good tenant litigation lawyer in NYC? Our (crazy) former tenants continue to harass us a month and a half after moving out (even after we returned their security deposit and didn't take out $ to cover the extensive damages they caused precisely to avoid litigation). It's just petty nuisance things so far-giving out our email to spam sites etc.-but I think we need to get a lawyer to send them some kind of letter telling them to stop harassing us before it gets worse. It's become very stressful.

Any old lawyer can send a letter demanding that they stop harassment. You can send one yourself.
You need a lawyer when you are ready to sue them.
CA has procedure for restraining order against harassment. Maybe NY does too. If so, check the legal definition of harassment for the purpose of such an order. The law may define harassment differently from what you think it is. Giving out your e-mail address to spam sites may not qualify.
Are you really being harmed by this harassment? If so, another type of suit may be in order. Do the ex-tenants have anything of value?

Yeah I would think any lawyer can draft up and mail a cease and desist. --71.251.xxx.xxx |

Once you find a lawyer:
1. Sit in his office and tell him the whole story (ka-ching).
2. He writes a letter (ka-ching).
3. If the tenants write a response, lawyer has to read it (ka-ching) and respond to it (especially if business is slow) (ka-ching).
4. If I were tenants, I would write to lawyer, denying allegations that I gave e-mail address out, and demanding that lawyer cease & desist. Of course, no self-respecting lawyer will take that without fighting back (ka-ching).
And basically, what is happening to you is not really harassment, according to the legal definition. If it bothers you, change your e-mail address and don't give it out again.

Just start sending their email address to a bunch of spammers. If they want to play with you, then play back, just meaner!
Put ads on craigslist with asurd things at low prices and give out their phone number and email.

If you have it documented then forget about it, save all this for a later court date, if it ever happens - many blow smoke in your eyes, just turn and look a different direction. In case you are new to spamming, welcome to the internet, it happens every and anywhere, perhaps a stronger mail program is needed. --99.160.xx.xxx |

Warning - NOT from your home computer, remember, the IP address ... They try to mind eff you. Don't allow them to gain this power over how you feel and when you feel it. Sounds like nutters. What's the story? What do they want? Torment you as they perceive you as open to this and vulnerable? Don't waste money on an attorney! Put their address on daily p*rn pictures and such and their inbox will get flooded, too. --118.172.xxx.xx |

What OKHMBLDR suggests starts to become a real case for harassment, at least according to CA law.
