State Specific Question About: MAINE (ME)

I have developed an independent analysis of the cost comparison of the two most widely used fuels to provide heat and hot water....fuel oil and natural gas. Research information was obtained from Google (BTU), UnitilGas.com, and MaineOil.com. The basis for the comparison is the amount of heat produced (btu's , the scientific measure of heat), because the amount of heat that is obtained from the fuel of choice is the only factor in determining which fuel will result in the greater efficiency, and how much of an annual cost saving can be achieved in your operation.

The two page summary and formula applies to fuel oil and natural gas. Local market prices are plugged in to get the result. You simply substitute your local market price of fuel oil and natural gas in the formula.

If you are providing heat and hot water in your building and would like a copy of the COST COMPARISON OF FUEL OIL AND NATURAL GAS BASED ON BTU, send me a stamped self addressed envelope with $2 to Rob Wood, 8 Blackstone St., Bangor, Me. 04401. --72.73.xxx.xxx

Lets all run out and call the oil delivery man, or turn the gas on...

I'll just turn the gas on, once a year and let it run.... --69.245.xxx.xx

That doesn't mean much to me. The cost of oil to me was ignorant repair men who never cleaned my boilers and other units in the first place or repaired them properly.

I just made contact with a steam expert who I have been calling and leaving messages for ten years. I finally was able to get his cell phone and told him that a friend of his recommended that I call him, so he came out. He does great work.

Why didn't he ever call me back in ten years? His wife takes the messages off the answering machine, that's why. I had a feeling that was the reason. I have a very nice feminine voice and she screened me out because I sound young and I guess she didn't want her husband around a nice young sounding woman!!!

This week, he found that my older boiler was packed with rust because in six years it had not been drained and he cleaned it. He replaced the low water cutoff that the last guy said was working but was not.

That's the real cost of oil heat.

I had six oil using units and got sick and tired of the bozo's that the oil companies were sending out to repair them or clean them.

I got sick and tired of the sludge filled oil they were giving me.

I got sick and tired of them letting my tank run out so they could charge me more when the prices were going up every week two years ago.

I got sick and tired of them refusing to come out and fill a tank when it was not low enough to suit them.

I got sick and tired of Wall St. playing with the oil prices.

I got sick and tired of the dumb women in the office who could not give me a heads up call when the repair guy was coming out.

THOSE ARE THE REAL COSTS OF OIL use. The gas comes in and it burns clean and nobody has to fiddle with it for YEARS!

But if this guy's wife had not screened me out because I am a woman, he would have provided good service for my 6 oil using heaters plus the oil.

He would have made a ton of money from me and I could have kept the thousands of dollars it took to get rid of them all and the tanks.

I often thought of having a man call this guy to see if I could get him out and I never did that. What a shame.

Even if the cost of oil is close to natural gas. Oil heat requires more cleaning and high efficiency boilers and furnaces are not available with oil. If one gets 95 per cent efficiency as opposed to to 80 per cent efficiency then the cost to heat is less. Natural gas only requires cleaning once every two years instead of six months. With never go back to oil heat. Here a lot of houses in rural areas switched to ground sourced heat pumps when the price oil went up very high. --74.220.xxx.xxx

I like oil because in Penna. the gas company can lien my property for an unpaid bill, even if in the tenant's name. I can't get stuck with an oil bill. If I give them the house with a minimal amount of oil in the tank and they leave with more in it, I made out. --70.90.xx.xxx

Ally has nailed it. The clowns that work on these things make me sick. I finally found a guy that was good. The efficiency difference has been night and day.

The other clowns didn't really clean the oil boiler worth beans and never suggested a thing to increase the efficiency. Most service guys stink. --71.243.xx.xxx
