I have a vacancy in my apartment building~~with two or three prospects am interviewing later today. I just received a call from a young prospect who is a student & works at fast food. I asked his age~~he said 20, and I stated that you must be 21 in order to sign a legally binding lease. He asked when this happened? Am I correct~~~or in trouble? Thanks, Sylvia

18 year-olds are considered adults and can enter into contracts.
All applicants 18 and older must fill out a rental application and sign a lease to rent from me and to also consent to credit/criminal checks. Even a family who has adult children 18 and over, fill out apps and sign the lease and pay for credit checks. --68.229.xx.xx |

18 is the legal age for signing a contract.
Emancipation is the only exception if under 18.
Ohio does not have an emancipation statue, however there are two temporary ways in which a minor can be out of the custody of their parent.
Either join any branch of the Armed Forces or marriage.
However, if the marriage is dissolved or minor is discharged from the service and still under the age of 18 the custody automatically reverts back to the parent who originally had custody. --99.158.xxx.xxx |

I would not rent to someone under 20 unless prepaid, it is unlikely that a fast food employee can afford the HUD standard of 3Xrent for income so be aware of undocumented roomates, do not take any security payments - all or none, --65.43.xxx.x |
