State Specific Question About: MAINE (ME

How much can I legally charge if a tenant is late on rent, and how late do they need to be before I can impose the fee?

It's going to be a month-to-month rental agreement and I will of course spell out the terms in the agreement.

Not sure you can legally charge a late fee in Maine. I never have.

There was a time I would inflate the rent at lease signing time and offer that amount as a "discount" for prompt payment. Till somebody got pssed about it then I quit doing it. --76.178.xxx.xxx

I guess I just answered my own question... Just found this information: Thanks for your responses!

Can my landlord charge interest on a late payment of rent?

Yes. If you do not pay your rent within 15 days after it is due, your landlord can charge a late fee. The fee cannot be more than 4% of one month's rent.
