I have had a no dog policy and specifically advertise "no dogs" . A woman calls on my advertisement, relates her daughter is hard of hearing and wants to know if an assist dog is ok. to have.

I believe by law you would have to accept the dog or risk a lawsuit,but if you request proof they will need to prove it with some form of documentation.I have had a couple of these dogs in my rentals and they are so well trained they will not be a problem --67.252.xx.xxx |

I would definitely request proof. Most dogs "assist" their owner, but that doesn't mean they don't poop on the rug and chew up the window sills too. If it's an official one, it will be well behaved, and they will be able to provide documentation with no problem.

I had a blind fellow I rented a third floor apt to many years ago. He was very lazy and would let the dog out in the hallway to do his business.

I knew a guy who was completely deaf and legally blind. He had an assist dog and that thing was really his lifeline. Funny thing was that dog was SO stinky. I always wondered why he didn't keep it smelling good since I assumed his smeller worked good. But then I started thinking he maybe liked the dog to stink so he could sense where it was, since he couldn't see or hear it. Not sure though. He was a remarkable guy. --98.251.xx.xxx |

I'm not sure if there are with the same official status as seeing eye dogs, but there definitely are aides for hearing impaired. They alert the owner (go and get them) when someone knocks on the door or fire alarm, etc. --98.251.xx.xxx |
