State Specific Question About: CONNECTICUT (CT)

Hello everyone,

So I might be leaving the country for a couple of years. I would be leaving at the end of the year. This is an opportunity that I think I should take. The problem is the HOUSES. I have two 4 family houses ( I live in one of the units), 5 minutes from each other and I do not know where to start looking for a property manager that is turstworthy.

These houses are not profitable parts of the year. I do live rent free in the summer but in the winter, I have to pay "rent" to cover the expenses. Me moving out of course would generate more money year round so I guess that is good.

BUT, where do I get a property manager for my small business? What should I expect? I am very conservative when I spend money on maintenance since I do not want to put too much of my money into the houses. THey are well maintained. So thoughts anyone how I am going to handle this two year move? I am worried about my houses but I do not want them to hold me down either. --72.221.xx.xx

Ask your family because nobody makes a good property manager like you, expect to pay 12-15 percent plus the actual repair costs and to have a few lousy sessions with tenants. --76.241.xxx.xxx

I'm with Virden generally blood is thicker than water and family looks after each other better. iF that's not an option ask as many other LL's in your area who they would recommend. Interview prospective PMs very carefully. If possible, leave a Trusted Family member with a Power of Atty to act on your behalf with the PM . If you're half way around the world you stand the chance of running into big problems. Good luck --70.250.xxx.xxx

Some of those other landlords may be willing to watch over your egg for you as well. Why are you leaving for a few years? Maybe sell these places and pick up where you left off once you return. --74.212.x.xx
