State Specific Question About: ILLINOIS (IL)
Can I ask, where have you DIY LL's bought replacement vinyl windows for DIY replacement in your rentals? Any good or bad experience you care to share. I'm hoping to find better deals than I can get at Menards/Home Depot/Lowes from one of the local Chicago area mfg or suppliers, for me to pick-up and self-install.
Thanks --65.88.xx.x |

I bought mine at the local lumber store. I did not like the way Home Depot handled the measurements.
Have to measure in three areas long way and side ways.
Some places add a quarter inch for spacing and some don't.
So when I went to Heath Lumber and got their brand the added the quarter inch to my measurements and it was perfectly easy to install them.
I did a whole apt. myself when I was not quite 50. Those things are heavy!
I guess you know where to put the tape to measure right? --76.99.xxx.xx |

I just buy mine at Lowes mainly because I don't have much choice here. Also, with Lowes, you can take them back for a refund if your measurements are off and they don't fit the rough opening. --76.18.xxx.xxx |

Lowe's did fine for us and a local lumber company also orders. --98.183.xx.xx |

Here lowes has Pella, I use a few places but always stay with argon and reflective glass, single hung is 15bux less per opening. --76.241.xxx.xxx |

I buy from Viwynco, who used to fabricate for Certainteed. I avoid the Home Depot products because they are very low end quality.
Use an actual fabricator, when a sash breaks they often simply send a new one out at no charge. The installation is much easier with a higher quality window as well.
In fact, the advantage of doing the work yourself is the overall quality. So to do a nice job installing a cheap window would be counter productive for a DIY. --77.113.xxx.xxx |

We got the ones we used from Lowes. Single hung to save money. Not sure I like the narrow ledge though. --71.51.xx.xxx |
