I don't know if you can come right out and ask if someone swam across the Rio Grande . But you need to ask for identification . If they don't have Valid ID and SSN I wouldn't rent to them because they aren't collectible. --70.244.xx.xxx |

This is where the credit checks come in handy. The service I use gives you a SS# review. It shows where that SS# was registers over all the years. You can see when two people used the same number.
I rent to lots of people from out of country. On my applications, it asks "are you a citizen?" So when the SS# is blank and they check this box, I know to ask further for their passport and or visa.

Make sure to check and photocopy an alien's passport! Illegal entry into the U.S. is a very serious matter. There should be an entry stamp and some VISUM etc. And anyone can get a tax ID named ITIN from the IRS. They should have something, even if it is not a SSN. --125.25.xxx.xxx |
