State Specific Question About: CONNECTICUT (CT)

How long can a tenant have a guest(s) stay overnight in the apartment? If they make an unusual amount of noise can we make them leave? --99.179.xxx.xxx

What are you renting a motel room or a house where people live and have a life.

I have heard of LL who crawl under the floor an listen for movement and moans....

I'd hate to go to court on this one, one might be called a prevert, and loose on a counter claim and find a cop waiting for them when they walk out the court room door... --67.163.xx.xx

Lord, I needed a laugh. Many of us put in the lease that a stay of (14 days) is allowed, after that it is a tenantcy (sp).

Too much noise is not permitted, what are they doing? If they are disrupting the whole place then visit and correct them, after all, sometimes they are like children. --208.252.xxx.xx

Refer to your lease. Ours state that anyone staying more than 5 days in a 30 day period is no longer a guest and the rent will be raised to reflect the extra occupant. --98.119.xxx.xx

I call mine the grandma visiting on vacation clause, it says that any extra people over 14 days in 100 is a resident and the cost to add them is 50bux per person excluding pets - I just got one last month. Parking must be on paved surfaces only meaning lawn parking is prohibited, I use construction cones over metal pipes to help enforce this, from the grapevine I have heard these pipes are bad for transmission linkages and radiators, I bring kitty litter after the tow truck leaves. --76.241.xxx.x

Audrey, It's your decision to allow guests and how long they should stay and should be addressed in your lease.

Here is a clause from a CT Lease.

"Tenant shall not allow any other person, other than Tenant's immediate family or transient relatives and friends who are guests of Tenant, to use or occupy the Premises without first obtaining Landlord's written consent to such use."

15a DISTURBANCES. Tenant and any other person on the premises at the tenants request or implied consent shall not disturb the other tenants’ peaceful enjoyment of the premises. Tenant agrees not to make or permit to be made any disturbing noises. Tenant shall keep the volume of any radio, stereo, television and musical equipment sufficiently reduced at all times so as not to disturb others.

Wow that is a very liberal clause. Who else would be a guest? A complete stranger?

Mine is 14 days in 12 month period.

Two weeks on my lease. The town says 21 days. If they are violating the lease, send them a cease and desist notice.

That should make it stop. Violating the lease is violating the lease no matter what the reason. --76.99.xxx.xx
