Anybody her use theworknumber . com to verify employment?
I ran into that roadblock twice today. Macy's and Walmart both will not verify employment. Instead they refer you to 1-800-367-5690 which is the number for theworknumber.com.
You cannot get a employemnt reference unless you signup for $69 and then pay about $14 for each employment verification.
Yes, you can use pay stubs instead, but they won't tell you how long they've been employed.

Hi Tenant W
So it is really simple.. don't spend your time calling..
have your applicant provide a letter from the employer on letterhead..to verify..
heck make the letter yourself and have them return it to you.. with the paystub or proof in the 2 months of bacnk statements you get from them..
they want the house. let them provide the proof.. --207.200.xxx.xxx |

I work in Human Resources and have to use the worknumber all the time! I think it's awful we have to pay $14 for an employment verification.
There are several good alternatives that have been mentioned above.
Ask for a W-2 record for the year they began employment or a paystub if they have them that far back.
A letter from the employer works too. The employee will surely bug the employer until they get the letter they need. Oooh, I know about that all to well.
You can call the receptionist at the place of business and ask for the employee - the receptionist is a good source of information, she will either confirm or deny whether that person works there. --24.235.xx.xxx |

Encountered The Work Number last month - a heads up to all, they will NOT have info on an incoming employee, as the info is all based on payroll info (found that out via phone BEFORE I plunked down a fee).
Also - that website does have a non-subscription called "Pay As You Go". I'm creating a new post with the info today - I'll call it The Work Number. TW, their pricing for PAYG is $14 for employment verification, $17 for employment AND income info. --96.227.xx.xxx |

I require their most recent paystub. You can see their ytd totals and figure what they are making. I have asked for copies of their taxes. Normally if they can't provide this information then they won't pursue the rental. --166.137.xxx.xxx |

I too ran into the circle of 800 numbers for an applicant who works for Children's Hospital. I told the applicant that she needs to do whatever it takes to get the info for me. I am not charging an application fee so I am not paying for this. I already pay out of pocket to run the credit check.
I do like the letterhead idea, but you are likely to run into inordinate delays if someone works for a big company or institution.
Boils down to how much you want the applicant - if it is a good one I work with the person. If not a good one, this will be just one more reason to issue a 'pass' --70.19.xxx.xxx |

Keep it simple. Get the form that Mortgage companies use information disclosures. For application I require my application filled out. A Release of information form completed and notarized( if necessary in your state) and away I go. If I get challenged I provide a faxe release of information form notarized by the applicant and their records are wide open to me.
Get careless with this information and you'll end up in jail. --64.12.xxx.xx |

2 years!!??? Seriously, we're lucky to find people who have a job TODAY!
Yes, we are having great difficulty verifying employment. The companies don't want to be bothered. We go with he 2 pay stubs.
Longevity no longer matters. 2 months or 29 years on the job - people are just let go.
We are seeing the same effect with a few local, large apt complexes not giving any references. Period.
Had another one last week: employed (verified), signed lease, unemployed the next day. --69.243.xxx.xx |
