State Specific Question About: UTAH (UT)

Any suggestions on how to get dog pee smell out of concrete? Just pulled up the carpet. . . --207.200.xxx.xx

Paint the floor with a oil base or urethane based paint to seal up the floor. --216.110.xxx.xx

Do as Robert suggests after you scrub down the floor with odor-x or natures miracle or even bleach and water. Make sure to saturate the wood tack strips and to seal those wood tack strips with the primer after the wood is completely dry. I have found that the source of lingering pee stench is from the wood tact strips in carpeted areas.

A good choice is BIN -oil based. It has a shellac that seals in the smell. I've used it many times and it really seals in the smell. Just buy an inexpensive roller and brush and toss them when you're done. Oh, and keep the area well-ventilated while you're working. --76.222.xx.xxx

Yes have plenty of ventilation or you'll learn first hand where the term " They're Shellac'd" Comes From. Ive also used original Kilz with good results. it'll make your head swim too without ventilation --70.248.xxx.xxx

Thanks for the suggestions. I saturated the area with Natures Miracle last night and boy did that bring out the stench. How many time should I do that? Just the once? How many days should I let it dry out? 2-3? A week? I need to go back and soak the carpet tacts now--I was wondering about that. I purchased Kilz Odorless oil-based paint to seal when the floor is dry, since there is already a lot of paint on the concrete from previous wall paintings. Do I need to extinguish the water heater and furnace pilot lights? Or just open up all the windows and basement door? Now I'm freaked. . . --207.200.xxx.xx

I don't think you need to extinguish pilot lights but if you have a box fan or two they would be worth using along with open doord and windows --70.248.xxx.xxx

we bought a slab house that had an a ton of dogs in it. We powerwashed the entire floor. Cut the sheetrock out about 2 ft. up from the floor, and used natures miracle.

I think it might have been the clorox that actually took the smell out. We did use oil base kilz on the entire floor after letting it dry.

Now it has the new tenants smell. --98.186.xxx.xxx

Regarding the wood tact strips and pee stench.

100% true happening. Last thursday about 5pm I get a call from one of tenant at my 10 unit.

Tenant says: I hate to be the messenger of bad news. But..... you have a problem in #5.

(this apt was recently vacated the end of March left in great condition, Tenants were never late with rent.)

What kind of problem?

It's flooded. It's bad.

Water is coming out from under the front door. The living room the hallway and it looks like the source is from the bathroom.

I start going through my mind what the source could be. I give her the lock box code so she can turn off anything that is on.

Get my hind end in my truck and I'm there in 5 mins. It turns out it was a hair clog on the far side between #4 & #5 #10 above and the laundry room. Filling the bath tub after the clog stopped up the tub drain. Then over the tub edge and into every room and the laundry room and #4's bedroom and livingroom. The entire apt is flooded all rooms standing 1 " of dirty water.

Before the current tenants who were there only 8 months The prior tenants left me with a very stinky cat pee problem. With all the water the brand new carpet was cat pee stinky from the carpet tact strips. I scrubbed, I sealed with kilz oil base primer the entire floor including the tact strips from the prior turn over. In fact I poured on the kilz and mop/painted it around the tact strips in the living room.

After this round with all the water.

I took the carpets out of the bedroom and living room into the courtyard and shampooed them. Then hosed them down while I hanging over a cinder brick wall. I used lysol this time and a couple of tenants said it was too strong in the courtyard. I laughed and asked would you rather have the stench of cat pee? I sure wasn't about to replace all the tact strips that are attached to the cement foundation. It's a pain to get screws in that 1965 cement. --24.176.xxx.xx
