Heard a rumor at a get together today that new Health Bill will have some effects on Landlords... but the person could not give more details - can anyone shed some more light on that?!

The new health-care legislation aims to raise $210 billion over 10 years to pay for the extensive new entitlements. How? By slapping a 3.8% "Medicare tax" on interest and rental income, dividends and capital gains of couples earning more than $250,000, or singles with more than $200,000.

The sad part about this is... I'm going to have to raise my RENTS by 3.9% to cover this tax.

Democrats, love to tell the poor people in this country, that the rich pay taxes... LOL

The only way to truly tax a rich person is to have a consumption tax. Oprah is never going to give up her plane, and Rush Limbaugh is never going to give up his cigars.

Tax them to kingdom come, and stop raising the taxes for us upper middle income families.

What really makes me sick is this is just the beginning of the tax increases. You can't run a $1.8 trillion dollar deficits, and promise to close it, without finding $1.8 trillion in NEW taxes.

But if I raise my rents, tenants will move. we are stuck. Got my new health insurance letter the day after ob ama signed the bill. They are canceling the entire plan and I have to pick a new one. Cost? up 50%. That comes out to $15/unit/month to cover this one cost. All the costs this year alone will need a $75/month increase. The market won't allow that. --24.21.xx.xxx

James, it's such a mess with all the ...... well the costs are so massive that what you're seeing today won't reflect much of anything of what we'll soon see. But taxes are going up all across the board. Even if we manage to get common sense people in place, it will take years to correct this mess if it even can be corrected.

But I think it's safe to say eventually "all" rents will be subject to the medicare tax plus the bush tax cuts will fade away this year. Then as the true costs of this giant legislation come into focus, congress will throw their hands up in dis-belief of the errors "made by others" and start raising taxes still more. History has a way of repeating itself over and over.

Plan accordingly. --66.32.xxx.xxx

Most of your HC problems will be solved soon. Seems the O administration is telling the Physicians to take a cut in wages, and they are, many are going into research.

When you get $25.00 to see a patient and spend 2 hours doing the paperwork to get it, it time to say good by. --67.163.xx.xx

I heard about the 3.8% on rental income but how can they tax interest when we aren't getting any? last time I renewed a cd it was at 1% for a 1 yr are we going to be paying to keep money in the bank? that is ludicrous. also when does this go into effect? --173.49.xx.xxx
