State Specific Question About: MAINE (ME)

I would like to know if the 30% Federal tax credit for eligible energy efficient windows, doors, etc. purchased through 2010 is available to owners of an apartment house, not just the homeowner. If so, where can the application paperwork found to submit for the credit? Thanks. --72.73.xx.xxx

It is homeowner only, but you can deduct it as a depreciating capital expense from your rental income. I don't know what the depreciation life of windows is. Remember, a credit of 30% is less than a deduction of the full price if you are in a tax bracket higher than 30%. Of course, you cannot deduct it all in one year; you must depreciate it as I said above. --68.37.xxx.xxx

You asked about an apartment owner and a homeowner, typically this would be handled by the owners accountant, the form was 5695 and 8908 is a energy form also. --99.161.xxx.xxx

I certainly wish rental property owners could get some kind of tax credit. Unfortunately, there isn't any kind of federal credit. However, I think some states might have some kind of tax credit. --205.188.xxx.xx
