Description:backed into aluminum structure surrounding garbage dumpsters at apartment where I live but didn't know it. Without contacting me, they report to Washington Co. Sheriff Dept. And I get charged with criminal mischief and failure to perform duties and landlord gives deputy an unsubstantiated estimate for 1300.00. DA is offering me 18 mo probation! I didn't know I hit it, 2 boards are cracked, I had T licensed and bonded aluminum siding contractors give me estimates of damage and I got 2 for $250 and one for $300 but DA won't allow me to settel out of court unless I pay landlord the $1300 amount they pulled out of thin air! I never tried to not take responsibility once I found out, didn't try to balame anyone else, didn't even wipe paint off back of car because I didn't know I hit anything! Is tis really legal? Does it make sense how everyone from landlord to sheriff to DA is acting? I will fix damage but I don't have $1000 extra dollars beyond highest estimated repair by professional tradesman to hand them! The apartments exhibit lots of damage (holes in siding, down spouts broken off, infact other side og wall I seeingly backed into is much more damaged and not by me!
