What exactly are they asking for? The sky is the limit. Maybe throw up or retrofit several flood lights to active via motion at night and they will be happy.
There ain't any security system that will stop an attempt of a break-in. Poverty, drugs, and stupidiness will drive people to do stupid things up to killing someone for several dollars if the circumstances are in favor of crime.

Hi all,
Thank you for the responses. What I am really interested in is understanding what I am liable for / what level of security I am required to provide. I believe in working with my resident to achieve a mutually satisfactory solution, but obviously as the first responder noted, the sky is the limit. I've done some searching on the internet and I'm not really finding what I am required to do... so thanks again for the responses and any additional insight would be wonderful. I do not think that there is any specific amount of security that you are required to provide or which will provide a "safe haven" for you. That is, there is no clear cut minimum or maximum.
What I am familiar with is a completely vague and useless standard of "reasonableness" based on the amunt of crime that there is in the neighborhood and the cost-effectiveness of the eforts that can be taken vis-a-vis the risks reasonably foreseeable.
I personally think this is complete nonsense -- after all, it is the job of the police, not the landlord, to make the streets and homes safe. But society has turned against this position -- the cops have no duty, but you the LL do!!

Here, we're required to provide dead bolt locks and porch light on all exterior doors, and non-keyed lockable windows for Residences.
It depends upon what your area/neighbourhood expects. ei rough areas you provide security doors, bars on the windows, and a free Pitbull guard dog.
Fancy neighbourhoods, you provide nice bay windows, imported exotic handcarved wood door, and pool service...

lasershield.net.for 200 or so they can get an alarm and 20 a month for service and they can take it when they go.no damage to your walls.dont provide it for them.if it fails and someone is raped or murdered (God forbid) u will be sued for a mill or so.they can engrave numbers on valuables .get engraver at police station.put stickers on doors and windows "operation id"or whatever they use in your hood.have neighbors watch out for each other.if money is no object they can get silent alarm and cops can catch bad guys in act.i know of a case here where bad guys were caught with silent alarm.geico insurance.com sells renters insurance. --208.58.x.xx |

they can't expect you to do much...if they decide they don't like the neighborhood, they should consider move. Sounds like they want champagne on a beer budget, and want you to pay for it!
As long as you are doing the basic things(provide door locks, basic exterior lighting,pay your tax bill to support police and 911 services), then you did your job.
